![]() ![]() Cortland enjoyed a 38-4-2 advantage in the first 44 games of the series.ĬORTLAND CAPSULE: Cortland's defense allowed only 190 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers in a 30-7 victory over The College of New Jersey in the Red Dragons' final regular-season home game last Saturday. The series started in 1948, and the teams have played every year except for 1950. Brockport won eight times in nine years from 1996-2004, with Cortland's lone win in that stretch a 21-12 decision in 2002 in the first football game ever played at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons also posted a 20-10 victory at Brockport to open the 2005 campaign. Cortland used a late goal-line stand to defeat the Golden Eagles 17-10 at home in 2006. One of Cortland's scores came on a Smith 77-yard return of a blocked field goal. The Golden Eagles won in 2007 at home, 28-14, as Garet Lynch rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown and Matt McCormick ran for 118 yards and a score. Felipe Diaz made 12 catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns, Tamere Shannon caught 11 passes for 121 yards and Matt Newman finished with eight receptions for 105 yards.Ĭortland linebacker Jim Smith finished with 19 tackles and an interception. Brockport quarterback Zack Luke connected on 39-of-48 passes for 399 yards and three touchdowns, although he was intercepted four times. Guaragno caught eight passes for 156 yards.īoth teams finished with more than 500 yards of total offense in the contest (Brockport 542, Cortland 511). Miles finished 20-of-30 passing for a career-high 348 yards, the fifth-highest single-game total in school history. Andrew Giuliano rushed for 146 yards and four touchdowns, while Ray Miles threw TD passes to Eric Hajnos and Zacc Guaragno. Last year, Cortland grabbed a 21-3 halftime lead and never trailed in a 42-30 home win over the Golden Eagles. THE SERIES: Cortland leads the overall series 44-14-2, including victories in three of the last four meetings.
